HISTORY OF BARANGAY CANDANAY SUR
1. HISTORY OF THE BARANGAY
Candanay Sur is one of the 42 Barangay in the Municipality of Siquijor Province of Siquijor with It lies along coastal areas facing the islands of Negros, Cebu and Bohol. The first villager’s of this barangay we’re Jumalon’s and Pabinguit’s clan.
The Barangay Candanay Sur was a
legendary name coined together from two words, CANG -ANAY” which
was given by the Spaniards. Once, the barangay was a haven of small
white wood devouring insects called “TERMITES” which the natives
called “ANAY”. Almost all of the houses were made of wooden
materials and bamboos and were seriously infested by the said insects
that caused the people to name the place “CANG-ANAY”. As
Spaniards arrived, they had difficulty in pronouncing the word “CARD”
so the sound “NG” had change to “D”, thus bringing out the
name “CANDANAY SUR” and the northern part as Candanay Norte it
lies between barangay Pangi and Candanay Norte. It
is two (2) kilometers away from the town.
Back
then, 1989-1994 former
Barangay Captain Tristan Bation established to divide the barangay
Candanay Sur into 3 puroks instead of seven: Purok I-
Highway-Paradise, Purok II-Everlasting, Purok III-Highway-Star
managed by the Sangguniang Barangay members until to this date.
